This Malian artist represents the future of Wassoulou folk. An actress who performed with the Royal de luxe troupe, this protégée of Cheick Tidiane Seck has worked with Dee Dee Bridgewater and Oumou Sangaré, sung with Herbie Hancock and Mulatu Astatke, and even performed on stage in the role of Karaba, the sorceress from the musical Kirikou et Karaba. At 37, a committed campaigner against FGM, she is touring in support of a second album featuring echoes of funk, pop, and reggae.
