Silent Shores – 17 original posters and public competition

Today, the Montreux Jazz Festival reveals a series of original artworks produced by the creators behind the official Festival posters. Based on the theme “Silent Shores”, 17 artists from around the world have imagined a summer in Montreux without music.

Silent Shores in 2020… See You in 2021!”. In April, the Montreux Jazz Festival announced the cancellation of its 54th edition. As it falls silent for the first time since 1967, the Festival has decided to explore its rich visual heritage, with its spirit inextricably linked to its iconic posters, created by renowned artists whose vision of the Festival sets the tone for the event each year.

But what does a summer look like without the Montreux Jazz Festival? 17 Festival poster designers have taken up the challenge of responding to the theme “Silent Shores” and providing their support through a series of original artworks, which showcase the unique visions of these renowned contemporary artists, photographers and illustrators, some as a mirror image of their earlier posters. Their interpretations are contemplative and subversive by turns, tinged with sadness, a hint of anger or humour.
