Rest in peace, Chick Corea

CHICK COREA (1941 – 2021)

The Festival today pays tribute to one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time. Always in search of new explorations, Chick Corea was one of the pioneers of jazz fusion, an outstanding trailblazer of electric keyboards and a genius composer of timeless standards.

The Montreux Jazz Festival was lucky enough to welcome him 21 times on stage. His history in Montreux reflects his career, filled with musical blends and exceptional encounters. Chick appeared for the very first time at the Festival in 1972, as part of the Stan Getz Quartet. He then returned with his various bands and surrounded by his friends Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Bobby McFerrin, Quincy Jones or Carlos Santana.

As everyone in Montreux will tell you: Chick Corea was a true gentleman, with a smile and a heart at least as big as his talent.

The keyboardist gave a last performance at the Festival in 2019, in the intimacy of the Montreux Jazz Club:

Rest in peace, Chick ?
