Louis Matute

A promising young guitarist from Geneva, Louis Matute is renowned for his skills as a perfomer and composer. Thanks to his pronounced taste for creation, he made a name for himself with the release of his last two albums, ‘Our Folklore’ (2022) and ‘Small Variations From the Previous Day’ (2024), which won him a great deal of acclaim from the press and numerous awards, and propelled him onto the most prestigious stages in Europe. His latest project, Louis Matute Large Ensemble, is a variable-geometry concept, a skilful blend of contemporary music and popular Latin music, which takes us into a unique artistic landscape, where the cohesion between the harmony and the musicians is total.
In 2019, he received the Cully Jazz Festival prize, is part of the Artistes Associés à l’Abri residency programme, and is a winner of the Jazz Contreband competition. In 2022, he also won the ZKB Audience Jazz Award in Zurich, the Evidence prize from the Académie du Jazz, and first place in the TSF Jazz 2022 awards. An eclectic musician, he is also a sideman on a number of different projects.
