Barry Can’t Swim
Swiss exclusivity
Before becoming Barry Can’t Swim and selling out every venue he played, Joshua Mainnie led a quiet life in Edinburgh between university, the conservatoire and the clubs he began to frequent. Discovering the vibrant culture and communities of these night spots inspired him to work on his own creations. Once his first songs were uploaded to Soundcloud, things moved very quickly. He signed to Ninja Tunes and released a string of singles, until he finally got his big break, producing an album the ‘old-school’ way. His sunny, colourful music fuses house with Afrobeat and jazz inspirations, and possesses a melodic richness that derives from his childhood influences, the Beatles. Today, many say his bright future holds the same promise as Fred Again, who performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2022. Stay tuned!
