Dam’Sax
Damien ‘DamSax’ Limat is a saxophonist born on 8 January 1993 in Renens and now based in Bern(CH). He began playing the saxophone with enthusiasm and passion at the age of 19. He then joined the Ecole de Jazz et Musiques Actuelles de Lausanne to learn about jazz, where he performed for the first time. Since then, Damien has played some of the best venues in French-speaking Switzerland. He shared the stage with Ibrahim Maalouf at Montreux Jazz (2017), and played at Caribana, Voix de fête and Paléo (2022) with the Nyon band WolfGang, to name but a few. As well as all that, he enjoys playing his saxophone in clubs, accompanied by DJs. At l’Usine (Geneva) with Dj Rapha, or at Le Bourg (Lausanne) with TshiTshi. Since 2022, he has been studying at the HKB, the Haute Ecole de Jazz in Bern, and is beginning to make an impact on the Swiss-German scene. Although DamSax’s playing is influenced by a wide variety of musical styles (reggae, jazz, classical music, hip-hop), his preferred style is Spiritual and Free Jazz. It is in this world that he expresses himself most freely, drawing his ideas from the music of John Coltrane, Archie Shepp, Ornette Coleman and even Marquis Hill and James Brandon Lewis. Through his music, DamSax wants to share his passion, his ‘spirit’, with the public and give them intense emotions during his performances.
