Iconic LP: L’homme à tête de chou, presented by Sébastien Merlet (Maison Gainsbourg)
Running time: 90 minutes
Mixed talk by Sébastien Merlet, author of the book Le Gainsbook, scientific curator of the Maison Gainsbourg and responsible for the re-release of the album in 2023. Considered to be Serge Gainsbourg’s ‘other’ masterpiece (along with Histoire de Melody Nelson), the concept album L’Homme à tête de chou remains as fascinating as ever, almost fifty years after its release.
An in-depth look at the threads of inspiration, the conception and recording of this first-person interior narrative, interspersed with an audiophile listening session of all twelve tracks on the album, as well as alternative takes and instrumental versions.
After more than 32 years of waiting, the Maison Gainsbourg has established itself since its opening in September 2023 as a key cultural venue in Paris dedicated to the transmission of Serge Gainsbourg’s work. Conceived and led by his daughter Charlotte, this project offers a plunge into the heart of the artist’s creative and personal universe.
The Maison Gainsbourg offers a visitor experience at two sites on rue de Verneuil in Paris (7th arrondissement):
- 5 bis: the historic house in which Serge Gainsbourg lived for 22 years, a legendary interior preserved intact since his death in 1991.
- Opposite, at number 14: a museum retracing the life and career of the artist, a bookshop and the Gainsbarre, a café and piano bar, to extend the visit.
