Mavis Staples
A legend more in tune with the times than ever. A soul and gospel legend since the sixties, Mavis began her career with the Staple Singers. With her father and sisters, she scored hits like ‘This May Be The Last Time’, later covered by the Rolling Stones, and fought alongside Martin Luther King by recording several freedom songs. Today, the music world is still crazy about the voice of Mavis Staples. In the last five years, Ben Harper, Aloe Blacc, Buddy Guy, Sheryl Crow, Nick Cave, Arcade Fire, Gorillaz and Jon Batiste have all worked with her. And then there’s Norah Jones. Through their collaborations in the studio or on stage, the two women have developed a beautiful friendship which continues this summer in Montreux.
