Yussef Dayes is one of today’s hippest jazz musicians. The London-based drummer synthesises a dazzling array of sounds and rhythms from the southern hemisphere, from West Africa to the Caribbean and South America. Taught by the legendary Billy Cobham, he first made a name for himself as the electrifying drummer for the duo Yussef Kamaal. A regular contributor to the South London scene (Tom Misch, Alfa Mist et al), his name now extends far beyond the British borders. In autumn 2023, he released his album, Black Classical Music, a reference to a famous Nina Simone lyric, backed by the cream of modern jazz musicians, including Rocco Paladino, Charlie Stacey, Masego and Shabaka Hutchings.  Fusing jazz, reggae and hip-hop, the album condenses all the music that has made Dayes what he is today.
