Book: Le Gainsbook, by & presented by Sébastien Merlet (Maison Gainsbourg)
Running time: 60 minutes
Interview with Sébastien Merlet, author of Le Gainsbook and scientific curator of the Maison Gainsbourg.
The Gainsbook is the fruit of over twenty years’ research, involving all those (arrangers, musicians, technicians) who worked with Serge Gainsbourg. It sifts through the artist’s repertoire, revealing the secrets behind the making of his songs. The Gainsbook is considered a reference work, a veritable tool for exploring this immense musical work.
After more than 32 years of waiting, the Maison Gainsbourg has established itself since its opening in September 2023 as a key cultural venue in Paris dedicated to the transmission of Serge Gainsbourg’s work. Conceived and led by his daughter Charlotte, this project offers a plunge into the heart of the artist’s creative and personal universe.
The Maison Gainsbourg offers a visitor experience at two sites on rue de Verneuil in Paris (7th arrondissement):
- 5 bis: the historic house in which Serge Gainsbourg lived for 22 years, a legendary interior preserved intact since his death in 1991.
- Opposite, at number 14: a museum retracing the life and career of the artist, a bookshop and the Gainsbarre, a café and piano bar, to extend the visit.
