From 23 to 26 November 2022, the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation presents the 3rd edition of its autumn festival at the Petit Palais in Montreux. On the programme: the Swiss Rising Talent concerts, the famous jam sessions, exciting workshops, listening sessions of mythical records and a series of pocket concerts celebrating the 15th anniversary of the foundation. All activities are free of charge, except for the closing concert of the Montreux Jazz Academy.
MONTREUX JAZZ ACADEMY CONCERT
Not to be missed: the closing concert of the Montreux Jazz Academy, with seven young musicians and their mentors. For its 8th edition, the Academy will take place under the musical direction of four London-based artists: producer Gilles Peterson, saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch, multi-instrumentalist Emma-Jean Thackray and saxophonist Chelsea Carmichael. Together they will prepare a concert that promises to be, as every year, exceptional and full of surprises.
SWISS RISING TALENT
The Swiss Rising Talent concerts highlight six up-and-coming Swiss artists. The selection reflects a multilingual and talented Swiss scene in many musical genres:
- The Wednesday evening will have a folk-pop flavour with the indie compositions of Auk Nova from Bern and Nola Kin from Zurich.
- Thursday will be anchored in modern jazz with Basel accordionist Anatole Muster and Zurich multi-instrumentalist Andrina Bollinger.
- The Friday evening will have a more urban tone with the neo soul of the Ticinese Pilar Vega and the melancholy rap of Valaisan Nuit Incolore.
POCKET CONCERTS
The Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. For the occasion, it invited back seven artists who enjoyed further success after taking part in one of the piano, voice or guitar competitions. The pocket concerts will allow the public to rediscover these exceptional talents in high-profile solo performances.
WORKSHOPS & MUSIC LISTENING SESSIONS
Workshops and music listening sessions will punctuate the early evenings of Autumn of Music. With, among others, the legendary Chicago saxophonist Chico Freeman, the 3 times Grammy Award-winning Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, the Franco-Israeli virtuoso Yaron Herman or the duo Elina Duni and Rob Luft who met at the Montreux Jazz Academy in 2017.
JAM SESSIONS
The famous Montreux jam sessions will rock the Coupole stage every evening, launched by the Lausanne collective Le Chic Astral, which will be joined by musicians from the Academy.
CLOSING PARTY – Celebrating Jazz & Club Culture
Gilles Peterson invites his friend Jean-Paul « Bluey » Maunick to accompany him on the decks for an evening of feverish groove. Bluey is a pioneer of British acid jazz, best known as the founder of the mythical group Incognito, which has performed five times in Montreux.
