Arthur Baker, long time record producer, remixer and dj, will lead a discussion and musical presentation focusing on the importance of the disco, jazz and funk musical roots in the development of the urban culture known as hip hop. Baker was amongst a small group of producers who can lay claim to having helped develop the sound of early hip hop, electro and dance music- combining those musical roots with the cut and paste, sampling and drum machine technology to create the new sound of the 80s, while producing such songs as Soul Sonic Force’s ‘Planet Rock’,& ‘Looking For The Perfect Beat”, Rockers Revenge ‘Walking On Sunshine’ New Orders ‘Confusion’, Freeez ‘IOU’ and his own ‘Breakers Revenge’ from the film Beat Street.
